The Basics
Odyssey House Sober Living (OHSL) is a network of recovery communities in and around Salt Lake City, Utah. Each apartment building is made up of individual units suitable for single men and women as well as recovering parents seeking sober housing for their families. The five sober OHSL complexes provide a safe, sober community with structured living and a support network of fellows in recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
Each of the apartments in the OHSL community have subsidized rent to assist individuals until they are able to maintain sobriety and live independently in the community. Apartments are renovated and come fully furnished. All have a living room with cable TV, a fully equipped kitchen with small dining area, two bedrooms, a bathroom and a balcony. Each complex also has plenty of parking and a play area for children. Residents also have access to medical care and 24/7 on-call staff.
Rules and Regulations
OHSL owes its success to its community-minded approach to sober support. Clients are required to attend on-site weekly group therapy sessions as well as mandatory individual sessions—scheduled independently by each client. Therapy is available on evenings to accommodate work and family schedules.
OHSL does not use the 12-step model of recovery, but follows the CBT model of treatment. There is random drug testing, and residents are responsible for keeping their space clean. Case management is also provided to clients, with staff helping to manage therapies, coordinate outpatient care if needed, provide referrals for community programs and counsel in any way they can.
Extras
Because of the close-knit relationships among residents staying in OHSL apartment complexes, community activities like games of horseshoes, preparing shared meals and barbecues are common.
