The Basics

Located in the Los Angeles area, NuLife Treatment Centers sober living is the structured living component of the NuLife Treatment Centers. Luxury sober living in gender-specific homes is provided for those opting to live in a safe environment while they undergo outpatient treatment at the clinical facility. NuLife was founded in 2013 by two entrepreneurs who are also in recovery. Based on personal experiences, they were inspired to create an alternative to the traditional treatment experience. NuLife’s treatment continuum is client-centered and treats the causes and conditions of addiction rather than just the symptoms of the disease. NuLife’s sober living offers structure and support in an upscale environment.

Accommodations and Amenities

NuLife has two gender-specific homes. The houses are located on quiet residential streets, and include landscaped yards and pristine shrubbery. Each residence accommodates between eight and 10 clients, all paired in spacious rooms, which include full or queen beds, nightstands, lamps and dressers.

The houses include fully equipped kitchens, living rooms and dining areas. Residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Amenities include WiFi, cable TV and laundry facilities. House managers live on the premises.

Rules and Regulations

Typically, NuLife accepts men and women who have graduated from primary care at NuLife or another rehab, and who have a minimum of 30 days of sobriety. Potential applicants undergo a comprehensive interview, and must pass a urine drug and alcohol screen. Upon acceptance, new clients undergo an orientation session with the sober living director.

While living at NuLife sober living, residents must attend the weekly house meeting and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or individual therapy at NuLife. During the first 30 days of their stay, clients must abide by a 10 pm curfew, seven days a week. After that initial period, curfew is midnight seven days a week. After 30 days, clients must attend a minimum of three weekly 12-step meetings, including the house meeting, which has some recovery components. Participation of assigned household chores is also mandatory to ensure that residences are clean and tidy.

Residents must secure employment within 14 days of arrival. Unemployed clients must be out of the house from 8 am to 3 pm, Mondays through Fridays searching for work. Vocational assistance is provided. Those who get nighttime shift jobs that interfere with curfew have to clear those positions with the house managers.

Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted and residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately to ensure the safety of the household. Other forbidden behaviors include socializing with old buddies, exhibiting violent or abusive behavior, engaging in intimate relations with another resident, looking at porn and stealing from another housemate. Clients who notice suspicious behavior, but fail to report it, are also subject to immediate eviction.

Extras

NuLife sober living hosts a monthly fellowship dinner for all residents and attendance is required. Usually, the dinner is hosted at one of the homes.

NuLife has an extensive music therapy program and sober living clients have limited access to the recording studio at the main residential facility. Residents, write, perform and record their own songs. A studio engineer guides them in the process. The result is at least one original CD a year. All proceeds of the album sales go toward the HARP Foundation, which runs NuLife.

In Summary

NuLife Treatment Centers offers a high-end sober living option for men and women. The houses are also located close to plenty of job opportunities, public transportation and 12-step meetings. At NuLife Treatment Centers, residents have both the structure and support they need to rebuild their lives.
