The Basics
Founded in 2005, The New You Center, Inc. offers long-term outpatient substance abuse treatment in south Los Angeles, near the 110 Freeway. In addition to providing substance abuse treatment, New You acts as a support hub for its neighborhood, providing referrals to mental health clinics, family services and other community programs.
Treatment and Staff
Clients attend treatment, which consists of group therapy, anywhere from six to nine months, according to their needs and progress. Groups are offered each weekday from 12:30pm to 2pm. Clients are required to attend at least three groups each week and can attend all five if they wish.
Groups are led by a CAS addiction counselor. Groups use CBT to help clients manage triggers and learn new coping skills. Groups also explore the disease model of addiction. If clients need individual therapy and dual diagnosis support, there are nearby low or no-cost mental health clinics. All clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, and New You will help court-ordered clients locate meetings that are required for their treatment plans.
Extras
New You offers services in Spanish and provides transportation to treatment. Clients can participate in parenting, anger management and domestic violence intervention classes, as well. After completing their treatment plans, New You clients can attend a weekly relapse prevention group as long as they wish.
