The Basics
Needles Center for Change is an outpatient treatment facility in Needles, California. The facility is one of many subsidiaries of Mental Health Systems, a behavioral health company founded in 1978 that provides treatment for substance abuse, DUI services and other related community programs. Needles Center for Change is open to both self-referred clients and those transitioning out of the criminal justice system.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment or referral from the San Bernardino court system, clients begin individualized treatment plans consisting of group and individual therapy where evidence-based methods of CBT and REBT are used. Per court guidelines, clients also attend regular 12-step meetings and educational sessions on relapse prevention, anger management and parenting skills—with gender-specific and parolee groups available.
Staff consists of CADCs, Master’s-level counselors and case managers.
Extras
In addition, Needles Center for Change operates as something of a community center with walk-ins welcome. Clients use the facility’s computers for job searches and take advantage of case management services for education, employment and mental health. DUI classes and urinalysis testing are also offered.
Programs for employment readiness—including Steps to Success, a program that makes troubled youth between the ages of 17 and 21 more employable, and the CalWORKS Life Skills program that offers tools for survival in mainstream society. There is also a 16-week deferred entry program for those sentenced to prison through drug court that consists of educational sessions about addiction.
