The Basics

Located just a few minutes outside of downtown in East Los Angeles, California, Narcotics Prevention Project (NPP) is a community-based treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with substance use disorders as well as those with co-occurring disorders and physical illnesses. NPP was founded in 1967, by a group of individuals in recovery, to provide assistance to the East Los Angeles community noted for a high rate of unemployment and substance abuse. Now federally funded, programming consists of primarily outpatient-based services including detox, methadone maintenance and methadone detox.

Treatment and Staff

The ultimate goal of NPP is to treat individuals with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders while simultaneously strengthening the East Los Angeles community. Clients beginning treatment at NPP undergo an initial “needs assessment” to help the staff develop the most effective customized programming. The facility’s comprehensive treatment includes outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for clients in need of detox, Methadone maintenance and detox using Suboxone, Naltrexone and Vivitrol. Clients attend group and individual sessions at the facility and receive customized medication management, based on their individualized needs.

The NPP team is comprised of case managers, counselors, an executive director and a medical director. Medication management is available for individuals in need of dual diagnosis support, and all staff are schooled in prevention, treatment planning, case management, parole and probation.

Extras

NPP also provides primary medical care, drug screening, case management and education services that focus on family planning and STD prevention. In addition, the programming includes specialized groups for individuals with substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, homosexuals, the elderly, pregnant and postpartum women and gender specific issues.

In Summary
