The Basics
Based out of Anchorage, Alaska, Narcotic Drug Treatment Center, Inc. is a CARF-accredited, non-profit drug treatment facility founded in 1974. The organization specializes in treating clients with physical and psychological dependence on opiates, namely drugs like heroin as well as prescription painkillers. All programs are individualized and highly confidential, with both self-referred and court-ordered clients welcome to attend.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their medical history and their needs. While the facility doesn’t offer inpatient detox services, it does do an ambulatory detox program that includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), most often in the form of methadone. In addition to the medication management of withdrawal symptoms, all participants attend both individual and group therapy with evidence-based methods including CBT and DBT. Groups cover many topics including life skills, relapse prevention, trigger identification and emotional processing. While dual diagnosis support is not available, the program does use basic 12-step principles and can refer participants out to nearby meetings.
The staff at Narcotic Drug Treatment Center consists of nurses, case managers, medical technicians and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
The organization can make referrals to additional medical, nutritional and educational services in the area. HIV testing and education services are also available. Through counseling and case management, the facility strives to help clients gradually decrease their doses of methadone to help them live drug free. Those who complete one of the programs can also work with staff to develop step-down aftercare and discharge plans.
In Summary
Overall, the Narcotic Drug Treatment Center, Inc. provides basic, outpatient-based care for clients struggling with opiate addiction. All programs are individualized and include MAT along with evidence-based group and individual counseling services. Although anyone in need of more intensive inpatient care or dual diagnosis support may need to seek additional aid elsewhere, the Narcotic Drug Treatment Center Inc remains a strong resource for those in the area.
