Monte Nido Agoura Hills Review
With a number of programs offered throughout the country, Monte Nido is an expansive healthcare network offering treatment to men and women struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring issues. Founded in 1996 in Malibu, California, Monte Nido has since expanded into Oregon, New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. One of its residential treatment facilities is located in the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills, California and referred to as Monte Nido Vista.
Accommodations and Food
Altogether, the Monte Nido Vista facility has room for 12 women ages 18 and up in a gated, Mediterranean-style estate. Bedrooms are each shared between two residents and have twin beds with comforters, bedside tables, dressers and modern decor. The location also has a yoga studio, pool, vegetable garden and walking paths through gardens.
Throughout their stay, residents are served three meals a day by an on-staff chef with the help of nutritionists. Because cooking and food are such an important part of treatment for eating disorders, clients also work with staff members to learn cooking skills and to help with meal preparation as they progress through the program.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, residents go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. For incoming clients also struggling with substance abuse or addiction, it’s worth noting that detox is not provided on-site but Monte Nido can facilitate referrals to nearby facilities as necessary. Once stabilized, clients attend full days of group and individual therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT and Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Therapy. As previously mentioned, dual diagnosis support is a major component of programming and medication management is available when needed. Though 12-step participation is not required, both AA/NA and SMART Recovery principles are incorporated and encouraged. Group sessions cover a wide range of subjects including body image, feminist issues and relapse prevention. Family therapy is also included in the program.
The staff at Monte Nido includes LMFTs, psychiatrists, RNs, LCSWs, Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS) and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
Treatment includes holistic outlets such as art therapy, music therapy, psychodrama, yoga, exercise and nutritional counseling.
Clients can also expect off-site visits to various day activities, trips to restaurants, jewelry making classes, dance classes, naturopathic medicine and equine therapy. Clients who complete primary care are also welcome to attend further treatment through one of Monte Nido’s Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).
