The Basics
MNC Nutrition is a Philadelphia based facility that was founded by Marjorie Nolan Cohn, a registered dietitian, author and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. MNC Nutrition offers a variety of services including eating disorder counseling, sports and wellness nutrition, personal training and fitness groups, and education. Cohn has a Master’s degree in food and nutritional science and treats individual and groups in her private practice in addition to offering lectures and workshops throughout the country.
Treatment
MNC has individualized counseling in addition to meal support groups and corporate wellness. For the most part nutritional counseling is usually just a one on one experience, where clients sit down with their counselor and discuss their dietary goals and needs, and from there a treatment plan is implemented. The main goal of these counseling sessions is for individuals to feel like they have a given step by step instruction on how to meet their goals and get the necessary tools and guidance needed.
Clients receive metabolic testing, help with meal planning and grocery shopping, and get recipe suggestions and guidance. There are also groups for those struggling with eating disorders that take place in restaurants or in office that offers support and helps clients practice normalized eating in a structured atmosphere.
The corporate wellness program is a four week track where staff members get nutrition education, healthy lifestyle tools for change, and a renovation of meal time choices, with the focus on improving overall health within an office setting and cutting down on sick days. This program also provides a month’s worth of sample meals and snacks and personalized grocery lists. During the four weeks there are either four 40-minute lunchtime talks, or two two-hour group counseling sessions.
In addition to nutritional services, MNC also specializes in diabetes management, disease prevention and wellness, digestive disorders like IBS and Crohn’s, PCOS, cardiovascular health and weight management.
Extras
There are family nutritional counseling options available, and for clients participating in the eating disorder groups, family members are allowed to participate in a supportive manner. Cohn is also available for telehealth appointments.
