The Basics
In Rockville, Maryland, Metro Counseling Services is an outpatient treatment program for chemical dependency. With a focus on DWI/DUI convictions and other alcohol and drug-related offenses, it has been providing state-certified counseling, evaluations and education to Montgomery County since 1984.
Treatment and Staff
Metro Counseling Services accepts court-ordered clientele, as well as referrals from attorneys, families and other local community organizations. After a 90-minute bio-psycho-social assessment; which includes a full alcohol and drug use history, Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test (MAST) and the Alcohol and other Drug Quiz (ADQ), staff members develop individualized treatment plans for clients, which can be sent to attorneys and/or probation agents, if necessary.
The Twelve-hour Alcohol and Drug Education Class is a six-week program that meets twice a week from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Sessions are primarily educational and focus on the effects alcohol and drugs on motor and decision-making processes, as well as the disease model of addiction. This program is designed for clients facing criminal charges for alcohol and drug-related offenses.
The Level One Outpatient Treatment program is geared more towards clients with chronic or recurring substance abuse issues who are in need of a more in depth care. Though specific recommendations may vary, programs work within the structure of individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices like Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT. Groups address a range of educational and skill-building topics, like coping mechanisms and relapse prevention strategies. Depending on court stipulations, clients may also be required to attend regular off-site 12-step meetings.
The staff consists of CADCs and additional state-certified, Master’s-level clinicians.
