The Basics
MD Home Detox is a home service agency that provides private detox, interventions, drug testing and family counseling throughout California. It was founded by addiction expert Dr. Robert Waldman, who has been in the addiction medicine field for over 25 years. In addition to home treatment, clients also have access to behavioral consulting and ongoing case management, along with aftercare planning.
Treatment and Staff
Before a client starts the detox process in their own home, a representative from MD Home Detox conducts an assessment to learn about the individual and their environment, which allows them to become more familiar with what triggers there may be and how family and community interactions are. Once the client enters into detox there is 24 hour monitoring that takes place with the assistance of a nurse, and a board certified physician checks in on them daily. Additionally, a sober companion is on-site at all times who is able to communicate to the medical staff if there are any concerns during this phase.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is provided during detox, and this can vary depending on the substances being removed from the clients body. During the initial intake, the client and doctor evaluate the options and decide what the best course of action is. There is also meal and nutritional planning that takes place, which aids in improving how the client feels during and after treatment. MD Home Detox assigns a case manager to each client who assists in grocery shopping on either a daily or weekly basis.
Once stabilization occurs and clients feel up to it, they discuss aftercare planning and treatment goals with a consultant. This can mean setting the client up in a more intensive and longer term residential or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or connecting him or her to a therapist.
Extras
Clients’ family members and loved ones are also included in each step of the detox process, and MD Home Detox offers family counseling and educational services during this time. There are LMFTs on staff who offer guidance for loved ones by providing information on support groups, like Alanon, and referrals to agencies who can help find a therapeutic community for them as well, along with suggesting outside activities, hobbies or classes.

There are a variety of reasons that one may choose to have detox at home. Some may prefer the privacy while some just need that familiar comfort of their own environment. Regardless of what the reasons are, MD Home Detox is able to make the process a whole lot easier by bringing everything the clients may need directly to them, and providing long term treatment options for when they are able to continue on their recovery journey.
