The Basics

The Atlanta based Manna Treatment and Counseling is a CARF-accredited general psychotherapy practice that offers treatment based in Christian values. There are programs for those who are struggling with depression and anxiety as well as complex eating disorders and substance abuse. Manna Treatment facilitates individual and group therapy via either a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that utilizes evidence-based approaches combined with holistic methods to treat clients of all ages.

Treatment and Staff

Manna Treatment has several treatment options and programs for all types of clients and is able to help the incoming client decide the best track. In some cases clients may begin with the IOP, and if needed either step up to the PHP, or step down to a more group therapy based treatment schedule.

The PHP is a full time program that runs five days a week for six hours a day. The PHP goes from 9 am to 3 pm and includes several process groups along with trauma-informed care, experiential therapies, yoga and coping skills. For the most part the PHP and IOP are mainly for those who have an eating disorder, as it folds in meals and nutritional training along with body image counseling.

The IOP runs three to four days a week in the afternoon starting at 4 pm. Like the PHP, this track is group based. Individual sessions are included on a weekly basis as well.

Therapeutic approaches include ACT, CBT, DBT, and general talk therapy. Groups also focus on healthy sexuality and include a spiritual aspect during every session.  For the younger clients there is also play therapy.

Treatment is open to everyone and clients can take an “a la carte” approach by only seeing a therapist once a week in one on one sessions, or join one of the groups.

Eating disorder clients meeting regularly with a dietician to work out a meal and shopping plan. There are also regular meals that are eaten in a group that can be supervised by staff. During every phase of treatment clients are assessed throughout to see how they are progressing and if changes need to be made to their treatment schedule.

Dr. Genie Burnett is the founder of Manna Treatment and has been a practicing psychologist since 1999. Other staff members include an MD, Registered Dietician and LPC.

Extras

Manna Treatment has outreach programs and training available for internships. There is a family program offered that is generally counseling and educational services.

In Summary

Though treatment at Manna is heavily based on Christian beliefs, it is still a safe and judgement-free zone for those who are in need of psychological services. The programs are designed to help clients regain their sense of self and replace their addictive behaviors with healthy choices. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, and offers many years of experience and guidance to their clients.
