The Basics
As its name suggests, LifeSTAR Sacramento is based out of Sacramento, California—Gold River, more specifically—and provides a variety of outpatient-based treatment options for clients struggling with sex addiction. Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an intake and assessment process to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plans. While detox services for substance abuse are not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as necessary. While the specifics of each program may vary, several different tiers of treatment are available including an introductory Getting Started course, a main Recovery Group and an Advanced Group.

Rather than only addressing the symptoms, LifeSTAR’s programs try to address the root causes of problem behaviors by working on clients’ self-image and self-esteem. Groups include gender-specific care, trauma processing, trigger identification and relapse prevention. Participants are also encouraged to attend off-site 12-step peer support groups as well. As mentioned, dual diagnosis support including medication management is also available.
The staff at LifeSTAR Sacramento consists of LMFTs, psychologists, nurses and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Other specialized treatments such as neurofeedback are also available. In addition to the above, the program also runs a healthy intimacy group designed to teach healthier relationships in addition to treating problematic sexual behavior. Standalone anger management and parenting skills groups are offered as well. Treatment plans are also customizable and can be made to fit any number of schedules.
