The Basics
Located in of Los Angeles, California, Life Uncommon is an outpatient-based behavioral health organization which offers treatment to clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. The program is designed as a step-down or transitional option meant to follow either residential treatment or a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Life Uncommon provides services with the goal of helping clients who are already clean and sober transition from, “Successfully Sober to Sober and Successful™.” Programs are entirely flexible and can be made to fit different scheduling needs.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning the program, clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff and case managers design them an appropriate program. While detox services are not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities as necessary. Once stabilized, all participants attend both individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and EMDR. Frequency and duration of care depends on each individualized treatment plan. Dual diagnosis support for issues like depression or anxiety is available as well.
All clients are expected to be stable enough in their recovery to hold a job and be relatively independent. To that end, many groups deal with topics applicable to real world issues such as resume building, life skills, credit repair, financial counseling and more. As a strengths-based program, counselors also work to discover each participants’ unique talents and abilities and encourage them to channel them towards lifelong recovery. Though 12-step participation may be strongly encouraged, recommendations for other peer support alternatives, like SMART Recovery, are available as well.
The staff at Life Uncommon consists of LMFTs, LCSWs, life coaches, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
As an ongoing care program, Life Uncommon’s treatment plans can be stepped down or made more intense depending on each client’s needs. Individualized case management services also extend to aspects of life beyond treatment for addiction and mental health, namely in helping clients manage their households or professional lives. Both day and evening program slots are available.
