The Basics
Located in Boca Raton, Florida, Life in Progress is a subsidiary facility operated by Life of Purpose, a wide-ranging behavioral health organization that provides treatment for college students struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Unlike other sober living facilities, Life in Progress strives to keep participants engaged with their studies while they seek treatment.
Accommodations and Amenities
All told, the sober living facilities have a total of 55 beds in shared, apartment-style housing kept separate by gender. Both private and semi-private rooms are available with full beds, dressers, nightstands and other basic decorations. Each unit also comes with its own bathroom, common area and kitchenette.
In addition to the apartments themselves, the complex also includes shared common areas, on-site academic advisors and meeting rooms. Throughout their stay, all residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
Throughout their stay at Life in Progress, all clients are expected to remain sober and adhere to regular and random drug tests and screenings. In addition to attending classes, they must also participate in one of Life of Purpose’s outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), each of which include individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Participants also attend regular 12-step meetings and are encouraged to find sponsors.
While basic dual diagnosis support and medication management services are available, those in need of more intensive psychiatric help can get referrals as necessary.
The staff at Life in Progress consists of supervising MDs, psychiatrists, LCSWs, LADCS, LMHCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional holistic care groups are available including yoga, art therapy and meditation. Similarly, the organization also does adventure therapy in the form of ropes courses, surfing, team sports, snorkeling, paint-balling and other activities.
Finally, those who complete a program can work with the staff to develop wraparound aftercare services with follow-up on academics as well.
In Summary
Overall, Life in Progress is a relatively unique sober living option for college students struggling with substance abuse issues. The facility provides a safe, stable environment where residents can attend classes while also going to 12-step meetings, attending therapy and learning important life skills. While those in need of more intensive supervision may want to find additional help elsewhere as well, Life in Progress remains a strong program worth considering for those in the area.
