The Basics
Based out of Port Angeles, Washington, Klallam Counseling Service is an outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility specializing in serving Native American clients but services are available for non-native locals as well. The main program is an evidence-based Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that caters to both court-ordered and self-referred clients.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients are referred to either the IOP or a less intense outpatient track, however, both programs are flexible. Klallam Counseling Service makes treatment accessible for all with both day and evening time slots available for scheduling.
Treatment consists of group therapy and educational sessions covering topics like relapse prevention, co-occurring disorders, pain management and issues tailored specifically to the unique cultural needs of Native Americans. The IOP also provides groups focused on post-acute withdrawal symptoms and the psychology of early recovery. Attendance of off-site 12-step meetings is required for all clients.
Staff includes MDs, RNs, Master’s-level mental health technicians and additional support personnel.
Extras
DUI/DWI programs for court-ordered clientele, as well as urinalysis and other drug testing are also available. Because Klallam Counseling Services is a subsidiary of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe’s local governing body, additional resources—like affordable health care and a social services department—are offered to the tribal community.
