The Basics
Located 20 miles north of Ann Arbor in Brighton, Michigan, Key Development Center is a non-profit substance abuse treatment center. With over 14 years of experience in the Livingston County area, this facility welcomes people from all walks of life and financial situations. Serving clients ages 11 and above, they offer individualized outpatient treatment and psychiatric services for co-occurring disorders. In addition, specialty programs are available to address the needs of women and adolescents.
Treatment and Staff
Key Development Center offers a variety of outpatient treatment options. Each new client begins with an evaluation conducted by an experienced certified addictions counselor (CAC). Outpatient treatment services may include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and psychiatric services, or a combination of any of these, based on individual needs. In addition to treating chemical dependency, co-occurring issues such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder can be addressed through psychiatric services. Detox is not available.
Evidence-based therapy is led by trained counselors. The group sizes range from 10 to 20, allowing clients to form bonds with their peers and receive individualized attention. Group topics include relapse prevention, anger management, coping skills, trauma, and introduction to the 12 steps. All clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings as part of their recovery. Recommendations for local meetings in the community can be provided and sponsorship is not required. The steps are discussed in detail during group therapy. A family group occurs once a week, providing support for the addict’s loved ones.
The staff includes social workers, counselors and psychiatrists.
Extras
Project Success aims to help the school system with substance abuse prevention. The program offers school awareness activities, using announcements, posters, presentations, contests and special assemblies in conjunction with national events such as Red Ribbon Week. Collaborations with student groups such as DARE are used to bring prevention education to the community. Individual and group therapy sessions are also made available in the school for students who are struggling with substance use, stress, grief or relationships.
In Summary
Key Development Center provides outpatient adult and adolescent treatment for substance abuse. Using evidence-based modalities and the 12 steps, clients can recover from addiction issues. Through the hands-on staff and small group sizes, individualized attention is available.
