The Basics
Situated in the beautiful island of Bali in Indonesia, Kembali Recovery Center is a treatment facility that offers outpatient services for clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Kembali was founded by the mother and son team of Debby and Clayton Mallette, who have drawn on their own personal experiences in recovery to develop comprehensive and compassionate treatment programming using a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach. Many clients participate in the outpatient plan on a step-down basis from the facility’s 28 day residential program. Since Kembali primarily facilitates outpatient services rooted in therapy and the 12-step method; medication management is not a component of the programming.
Treatment and Staff
Kembali’s outpatient treatment program that is geared towards clients who have either completed the residential program or simply desire a certain level of autonomy. Some individuals are no longer in need of around the clock supervision but still require regular treatment. Clients entering treatment at Kembali first undergo an intake assessment coupled with a medical checkup at a nearby hospital. The evaluation enables Kembali staff to create the most effective individualized treatment plan, and also serves as a baseline for progress comparison throughout the program.
The facility believes that the best treatment approach is an integrative one. To this end, Kembali employs a broad approach that harmoniously synchronizes multiple therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapy, holistic models, experiential learning and the 12-step recovery method. Unlike many facilities, Kembali runs on a set schedule so that both residential and outpatient clients go through the program at the same time. All outpatient clients are required to participate in the weekend-long Connections workshop to go through team building and experiential learning exercises.
While no longer staying in the Kembali villas, outpatient clients nevertheless go through intensive programming. The facility requires clients to engage in a minimum of 27 treatment hours a week that include individual and group counseling, evidence-based therapy sessions using Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT, holistic methods like meditation, acupuncture, reflexology, yoga and breathwork as well as 12-step meetings. While the hours differ depending on the needs and schedule of the individual client, the typical outpatient schedule is from 9am to 3pm four days a week and 9am to noon on Saturday. Clients are also encouraged to go on the weekend excursions at no extra cost.
The Kembali team is comprised of certified drug and alcohol counselors and addiction specialists.

In addition to residential and outpatient care, Kembali recognizes that an effective aftercare program is a significant component to the success of a sustainable long-term recovery. Clients work hand in hand with staff to create a detailed recovery plan that includes education on relapse prevention and patterns. Clients that have completed the program have phone and email access to the Kembali staff as well as information on local 12-step support groups.
