Kedesh Day Program Overview
Kedesh is a not-for-profit or government run treatment facility for young people between the ages of 16 and 24. Located in in New South Wales, it has residential and outpatient programming for addiction and mental health issues. Outpatient consists of a day track that integrates SMART Recovery and evidence-based practices. Kedesh has a mission to empower young people with skills training and therapeutic experiences.
Treatment and Staff
The day program takes place at Mona Vale, which is a hospital near Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Kedesh offers this program to individuals who have successfully completed the eight week residential track and are still in need of supported care. The day program runs five days a week for five hours, and is a six week track. For the 20 clients in the program, there are two main stages of treatment (that does not include the ongoing aftercare).
After the assessment process clients start the initial three week stage of treatment. During this phase, Kedesh introduces clients to the concepts of distress tolerance and emotional regulation. They work on their strengths and use mindfulness approaches. This step also addresses how to communicate in a healthy and productive way and how to set boundaries that are assertive. As they settle into their recovery, clients learn about how to avoid situations that are potentially high risk and managing their core beliefs.
The second half of this track covers managing depression or anxiety, feeling of grief and how negative self talk affects them and those around them. In addition, the Kedesh team implements the idea of making changes to the cycle of drug abuse. They help clients recognize patterns in their lives that may have contributed to their addiction.
The day program treatment team utilizes CBT, DBT, Family Systems, Gestalt, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). They facilitate SMART Recovery on site, and encourage clients to seek out 12-step support within their communities too.
Staff that runs the day program at Kedesh are case managers, addiction counselors and peer support specialists.
Extras
After the completion of the six weeks clients have access to ongoing transitional support.
