The Basics
Just 4 Today Sober Living Homes offer men and women in early recovery a nurturing sober living environment. Located in south-central Pennsylvania, the homes are situated in the small, rural farming community of Stewartstown in York County. The town is 40 minutes north of Baltimore, Maryland and 25 minutes south of York, Pennsylvania. The mission of Just 4 Today is to provide peer support in an intimate structured living community. Besides relying on each other, clients also receive ample guidance from live-in house managers.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Just 4 Today properties include the House of Grace for women, and four houses for men including Michael’s Place, House of Surrender, Harmony House and Anthony’s Home. Homes are quaint, single family residences. Each house has between three and six clients, who are housed in comfortable single bedrooms, which include a full-sized bed, nightstand, antique lamp, closets and dressers. The rooms each feature their own unique characteristics, and have a lived-in quality. However, clients must get staff approval before posting mementos or hanging artwork on the walls.
Clients are responsible for their own groceries, and food is prepared in spacious, fully equipped kitchens. Amenities include cable TV, laundry rooms and Wi-Fi. House managers live on the premises at each house to provide supervision.
Rules and Regulations
Just 4 Today has two types of men’s houses. The sober living homes accept clients with a minimum of 30 days of sobriety, while the recovery houses accept those with just five days of clean time. The House of Grace women’s home falls into the recovery house category, accepting female applicants with a minimum of five days of sobriety. All potential clients must have undergone detox and be medically stable.
Newcomers who enter a recovery home must attend five weekly 12-step meetings, perform household chores, and be at the weekly house meeting. Meeting slips have to be signed by a secretary. Clients can substitute 12-step meetings with individual therapy or an appointment with a sponsor. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), psychiatric consultations and aftercare can’t be substituted for a meeting. During the first 30 days, clients must find a home group and obtain a service commitment. During that time, they must also secure a job or volunteer position, which requires a minimum of 20 hours a week.
Male clients have the option of moving into sober living after completing thirty days at a Just 4 Today recovery home. The sober living homes offer fewer restrictions, but clients are still expected to attend regular meetings, as their work schedules allow, perform household chores and continue work with their sponsors. A 10 pm curfew is enforced for all who have less than 90 days of clean and sober time.
Clients have to be up and out of bed by nine am every day, unless they worked a late shift the night before. At Just 4 Today, guests of the opposite sex must remain downstairs during the duration of their visit. Also, clients are expected to maintain the anonymity of their housemates. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately.
Extras
Just 4 Today established a non-profit status as of May 4, 2015, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Recovery Residences (PARR) which requires its affiliates to maintain high quality homes.

For those who seek to delve into a 12-step community while sharing a quaint house with a small number of housemates, Just 4 Today is a highly affordable option. Clients in good standing can stay as long as they want, and some stay for years.
