The Basics
J. David Collins & Associates offers outpatient substance abuse treatment in two facilities on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. With one branch in Salisbury and the other in Cambridge, Collins has LSCW and SAP credentials as well as over 15 years in practice treating clients with substance abuse and mental health disorders. Both locations offer a standard outpatient track, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opiate addicts using Suboxone.
Treatment and Staff
After a full bio-psycho-social assessment, clients are placed in either the standard or IOP track. IOP clients meet for group therapy four times each week and have individual therapy as-needed—usually once or twice a week. Standard outpatient clients meet for group therapy one to three times per week. The duration of treatment is progress-based, but most clients complete their treatment plan within six months.
MAT clients receive Suboxone from the staff physicians and must attend group therapy as well. Treatment plans for MAT clients are geared towards tapering off of Suboxone, and clients work with their therapist to create a treatment plan that gives them the therapeutic support to end their use.
The treatment team at JDCA includes Master’s-level therapists such as MSWs and LCSWs and addiction counselors with CDC credentials. The staff is qualified to treat co-occurring disorders and clients can participate in therapy and receive medication for mental health diagnoses at either treatment location.
Therapy groups at JDCA usually have fewer than 15 participants. Therapy is solutions-focused and uses a variety of evidence-based modalities depending on the therapist’s expertise, such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Gender-specific groups are available, and clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings outside of treatment.
Extras
Family therapy is available for loved ones who wish to participate. After clients complete their treatment plan, they can attend a weekly relapse prevention group for aftercare. For clients needing a higher level of treatment, JCDA helps locate a residential treatment program and then works with the client to create a post-residential aftercare program.
