The Basics
Huther Doyle was founded in 1977 as an outpatient substance abuse treatment provider in Rochester, New York. Today, Huther Doyle offers its clients drug and alcohol assessments and basic outpatient treatment, including relapse prevention preparation. Huther Doyle provides treatment to adults as well as adolescents starting at the age of 12, families and HIV-positive individuals, as well as those with co-occurring disorders. Huther Doyle utilizes the Stages of Change approach to addiction recovery.
Treatment and Staff
There is no set schedule for the Huther Doyle outpatient program; instead each client’s program is decided in conjunction with their assigned counselor through an evaluation upon admission. Treatment is completely individualized depending on the level of care necessary. Huther Doyle treatment is broken up into two phases. The main difference between phase one and phase two, is that clients switch counselors after phase one. The different counselors for each phase are meant to better round out clients’ treatment. Secondarily the phases differ in the amount of time clients attend each week; phase one requires more regular attendance, while phase two focuses on reintegration to everyday life and allows clients to work, go to school or volunteer and attend less frequently. Group is offered Mondays through Fridays at various times—there are options of 9 to 11 am, 1:30 to 3:30 pm and 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Clients meet with their counselor for individual sessions at least once a week.
Huther Doyle employs CSACs, at least four of whom are on-site at all times during business hours.

In addition to its outpatient substance abuse treatment options Huther Doyle also offers clients a full range of primary healthcare services, which come at a separate cost than the outpatient substance abuse treatment program.
In Summary
At almost 40 years of operation, Huther Doyle has been running its outpatient program longer than most substance abuse treatment facilities in the United Sates. Though its services may not be for those in need of more intensive level treatment, Huther Doyle offers affordable, quality services.
