The Basics
Located in Lancaster and Ephrata, Pennslvania, HSA Counseling, Inc. is a bilingual outpatient facility for substance abuse and mental health issues. Services such as Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and general outpatient services are available. Treatment and Staff
HSA Counseling, Inc. has a variety of treatment options for adults suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues. Prior to entering any of the programs, clients meet with an intake counselor to create a treatment plan that is unique to their needs.
PHP meets four times a week for four hours at a time. This highly intensive schedule allows clients to have ample therapy and monitored support while returning home to their everyday lives in the evening. The program includes two individual therapy sessions per week as well as several group therapy sessions. These sessions include methods like CBT and cover topics including relapse prevention, coping skills, healthy relationships, the 12 steps, self-esteem and anger management. Support for mental health issues is also offered through therapy. When it comes to the 12 steps, clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time, though they are not required to do so.
The IOP offers treatment three times a week for two hours at a time. The schedule involves one individual session per week in addition to groups. Treatment is similar to PHP, using a mixture of the 12 steps and talk therapy to help clients stay on track. The length of time spent in each outpatient program depends on the client’s needs.
Finally, general outpatient care meets only once a week for an hour and a half of group therapy in addition to an hour of individual therapy. This program is the final step of treatment and focuses primarily on relapse prevention. Many clients benefit from a step-down approach, beginning with the PHP, followed by the IOP and finishing with basic outpatient care.
The staff consists of Master’s-level therapists, LADCs and social workers. Group sizes for IOP and PHP range from three to 10 clients at a time.
