The Basics
Located in Ojai, California, My House provides a family-style sober living environment to men in recovery. Operated by Richard Yacinch who has 27 years of sobriety, the philosophy behind My House is that healing from chemical dependency begins in the home. He believes by providing a clean and sober atmosphere along with a strong emphasis on peer support, he helps clients gain a strong foothold in recovery. Additionally, Ojai—which means “pink moment, a name derived from the city’s pink and orange sunsets—is a beautiful location and has the reputation of being a great place for a spiritual retreat.
Accommodations and Amenities
Shrouded by trees and foliage, the small yellow bungalow-style house has green trim and a rustic porch with an old-fashioned bird house. The backyard is privately fenced has a covered deck for lounging in nature. The home accommodates a maximum of eight men. Up to four residents share each dorm-style bedroom and there are two full bathrooms. The comfortable living room has wood floors and earth toned couches. The rustic kitchen is fully equipped and features state of the art appliances. Overlooking the backyard, there is a cozy breakfast nook. Amenities include a hot tub, Barbeque and three refrigerators. Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Each client receives ample refrigerator and pantry space for food storage.
Rules and Regulations
At My House, there is no minimum or maximum limit for length of stay. Clients must pass a drug and alcohol screening prior to admittance. Clients requiring outpatient treatment, mental health counseling or physical healthcare are provided with referrals.
Weekly requirements for residents include attending a minimum of four 12-step meetings. An exception is made for men who are enrolled in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at a local rehab. They simply must comply with the rules of their program. Other rules include being present at the house meeting, performing household chores and getting a job or having some other means of self support.
The curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. After 30 days, residents are eligible to receive an overnight pass. Clients undergo frequent random drug and alcohol screenings as a measure of their compliance. My House has a zero tolerance policy for those testing positive.

My House Sober Living is a member of the Ventura County Sober Living Coalition. Additionally, the house accepts furniture, clothing and shoe donations for residents.
