The Basics

HopeQuest Group Ministries is a Christian-oriented recovery program based out of Woodstock, Georgia. The organization provides many different treatment plans for clients dealing with behavioral health issues, specifically drug and alcohol abuse, sex addiction, process addiction and other co-occurring disorders. Though the facility also provides specialized outpatient groups for sex addiction as well, its flagship program is a residential treatment track designed exclusively for men.

Accommodations and Food

HopeQuest’s Trek program is housed on an 18-acre campus with forest, creeks and ranch land. The facility has a total of 15 beds available in several small, comfortable, rustic-style  homes scattered around the campus, all with shared bedrooms. In addition to the sleeping quarters, the houses also have common living areas with comfortable couches.

Each of the facilities has basic accommodations including twin-sized beds, dressers, nightstands, lamps and additional decorations. The residence also comes with a wraparound porch, picnic tables and outdoor seating areas. Other features of the campus include jogging trails, campfire areas and volleyball courts. Throughout their stay, all residents are served three meals a day in an on-site cafeteria.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, all clients go through an intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their own care plans. As a non-medical or psychiatric program, medical detox services are not available (though residents can get referrals as necessary). While each program may differ somewhat depending on why the resident is attending, days typically run from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, with prayer, free time and reflection in the evenings.

In all programs, clients attend both individual and group therapy with certified counselors trained in a variety of evidence-based modalities. Beyond the clinical approaches, however, the facility primarily emphasizes a Christian-based treatment program with residents sharing their past sins and asking God for forgiveness. Additional marriage and family counseling sessions can also be worked into the program as necessary. Groups may cover topics including spirituality, identity, emotional processing, family issues and physical health and exercise. Unlike many similar programs, the Trek track lasts for 12 weeks rather than the typical 28 to 35 days. Although 12-step care isn’t a major part of the program, clients can get referrals as needed upon completing the program.

The staff at HopeQuest Group Ministries consists of LPCs, CADCs, LMFTs, case managers, chaplains and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

As mentioned, the organization also offers more flexible outpatient options specifically for sex addiction, namely the Walking Free group for men and the Journey support group for women (typically women with husbands in the Walking Free program). In addition to treatment, the facility also provides leadership materials and workshops for those trying to start their own Christian-oriented support groups and ministries. The organization’s key staff members also do rotating workshops and retreats as well. Finally, those who complete a primary care plan as described above can also work with the staff to develop discharge and aftercare plans as necessary.

In Summary

All told, HopeQuest Group Ministries’ residential program provides a thoroughly Christian approach to addiction and recovery. While much of the program’s speciality is in sexual dysfunction, those dealing with process addictions or with alcohol and drug abuse are also welcome to attend. While the program doesn’t offer much in the way of medical and psychiatric support, all the staff are accredited counselors familiar with evidence-based psychotherapy. Although the spiritual approach may not be a perfect fit for everyone, HopeQuest Group Ministries’ residential program is a good option for men seeking a longer-term approach to recovery.
