For the past 20 years, High Focus Centers has been providing New Jersey residents with evidence-based outpatient treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders. With locations in Branchburg, Cherry Hill, Cranford, Freehold, Lawrenceville, Paramus and Parsippany, High Focus Centers have become one of the largest providers of its kind in the state—offering individualized treatment programs for addiction and co-occurring disorders to adults and adolescents.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial intake and psychiatric assessment, clients work with staff to develop an individualized treatment plan that follows either a basic or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) track. Treatment consists of individual, group and family therapy, meeting two to five days a week for three hours at a time, and uses a balance evidence-based practices—such as CBT, DBT, psychoeducation—and holistic options such as experiential and expressive art therapy, yoga, pet therapy and mindfulness training. Programs also incorporate 12-step principles.

The adult program lasts for 16 weeks, offers peer support and works with outside clinicians. Though the teen program is essentially the same, it typically lasts for 10-12 weeks and focuses on early intervention as well as topics relevant to the demographic. In both programs, support for co-occurring disorders is available through additional counseling. Clients may also be subject to random drug screenings. The staff of the High Focus Centers consists of LPCs, LADCs, MDs, PsyDs, LCSWs and Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

High Focus Centers also offers a comprehensive family program as well as relapse prevention classes on Saturdays that serve as aftercare for alumni. Additional help for clients who are recovering from opioid addiction is available through specialized recovery groups based on the Hazelden model.

Complimentary transportation is available from school to treatment for clients in the teen program.

In Summary

Overall, High Focus Centers provides a range of outpatient treatment options for adults and adolescents. Client with a dual diagnosis will find strong support in the programs here, in addition to the nice blend of evidence-based, holistic and spiritual approaches to treatment. With two decades of history treating addiction and other mental and behavioral health issues, High Focus Centers is an affordable and comprehensive resource for locals seeking outpatient care.

My daughter was at the one in Freehold and was very happy with everyone there and I feel more locations in Monmouth County would be great. As to the billing I also called out to PA and never got calls back, they were submitting them to my Insurance and if I get a big bill in the mail a few months later I also will be very upset. But all in all the middle school counseling group was wonderful and I have a new child.

I won’t comment on the care provided as that is very subjective. However, I can comment on the very poor billing habits of High Focus. I have been trying to have my account cleared of an outstanding balance. I have sent correspondence to them and have provided copies of the insurance payment made by my insurance that they did not post. I get absolutely no response from them and the matter is not corrected. Now they threaten me with collection. This is obviously not a well-run organization.

    • Phil,
I went there in 2013. I was told that I had very good insurance and everything was covered. After completing the program, a few months later I get a bill for thousands of dollars. After calling them multiple times and them calling me back assuring me it was taken care of, it wasn’t. In the end I owed thousands of dollars because my insurance covered hospital based treatment. Funny how no one told me this until I get a bill. I have been paying it off since then a few dollars a month. But I think now after seeing your comment I will be taking a ride to King of Prussia, PA to have a chat with getting the bill cleared. Beware to all that has to deal with this outfit!!!

  3. an extremely unhappy ex-potential client on

This place is terrible. The staff are extremely rude and made me so uncomfortable the entire time I was in there. I ended up walking out on the assessment before it even concluded so completely offended and horrified at how the staff treated me. I highly recommend you do NOT use this center if you actually want to walk away feeling like you’ve been even remotely helped and not instead belittled by the people who are claiming to be there to help you.
Being an addict first-hand who also had a degree in the psychology field, I was appalled at how awful my initial interaction with the staff went. Cynthia and I believe the gentle man who came in her office was her supervisor, both demonstrated complete incompetence regarding appropriate etiquette for interacting with a potential client who is voluntarily seeking help.

    • Hi there, I am trying to find my dad a facility and we had someone recommend this place (mainly because it takes his insurance I believe, but after reading your review I am terrified to bring him there. He suffers from sever depression and needs compassion and support and it does not sound like this place employs the type of people equipped to help someone in his state with any empathy. May I ask if you since found a better establishment?
