Hamilton Field Novato Sober Living

Hamilton Field Sober Living Review

Hamilton Field is a spacious, upscale sober living facility in Marin County, California, one of several owned and operated by TLC Sober Living Homes. Situated in Novato, a former military base turned model home community about 11 minutes from downtown San Rafael, it offers a safe and secure environment but with the added attraction of being near plenty of outside attractions. Several of the renovated structures in Novato have been transformed into theaters, museums and restaurants. Hamilton Field is within walking distance of bus lines and shopping centers. With its structure, accountability and guidelines, residents learn to transition from sober living into society with relative ease.

Accommodations and Amenities

This beautiful, two-story sober living home has five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms and accommodates 12 residents, men and women. There is one master suite for three people and the other rooms are double-occupancy. Males and females have separate bathrooms. The living room, dining room and den have high ceilings with a chandelier hovering over the central staircase. Natural light streams through floor-to-ceiling windows in several common areas. The modern kitchen is stocked with upscale amenities such as granite tiles, microwave, dishwasher and even an espresso maker. The laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen.

All utilities—including cable for the flat-screen TV in the living room and den areas and Internet access—are included in the rent. Residents shop for themselves and prepare their own meals. With three refrigerators, there is plenty of space for everyone to store their personal food items. The backyard is small but has a barbecue in addition to an outdoor patio table and chairs.

Rules and Regulations

Hamilton Field accepts only individuals who have substance abuse issues; dual diagnosis clients are not permitted. In addition, residents are expected to have been sober for at least two weeks prior to admission. A urine test is required upon admission, and Breathalyzers and urine tests are administered three times a week to all residents.

Clients have weekly chores and are expected to be up and out of their rooms by 9 am each morning. There is zero tolerance for fighting, substance abuse and racial and/or ethnic slurs. Clients gather for house meetings on Thursday and Sunday evenings at 9 pm. All must attend either AA, NA or outpatient treatment five days a week and house cards must be signed. While a house manager doesn’t live at Hamilton Field, he or she is at the house every day and on call if needed during the night.

The length of stay at Hamilton Field varies, but there is a minimum 30-day commitment. Rent and the $250 administrative fee are not refunded if a client leaves prematurely. Curfew is at 11 pm Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Extras

A plentiful amount of laundry, kitchen and bathroom supplies are always on hand. The only items clients are responsible for are food, clothing and their own personal belongings.

In Summary

Hamilton Field is spacious and airy and has beautiful furnishings. While the 12 steps are not required as a path to recovery, the TLC founder and house managers are all members of 12-step groups and so there is an emphasis on meetings. Aside from paying one month’s rent upfront, there is a $250 non-refundable administrative fee.
