First Step Recovery Outpatient Review
First Step Recovery is a substance abuse treatment facility with residential treatment, detox and outpatient programs combining the 12-steps and proven therapeutic methods. The facility was co-founded by Tom Dailey and David Kapp in 2015 and is located in Warren, Ohio and is CARF accredited and certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Dedicated to treating each client physically by removing the substance use, First Step also focuses on healing the mind and spirit through therapy and involvement in local support groups.
Treatment and Staff
First Step Recovery is a voluntary program. All clients must be over the age of 18 and display the need for substance abuse treatment. An initial screening using a bio-psycho-social assessment is required prior to admission, a process that helps staff to determine if the client requires detox and whether they are in need of dual diagnosis support. Treatment for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and PTSD are available through the expertise of the clinical staff. Staff members include Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Board Certified Addiction Medical practitioners and Medical Assistants (MAs). The medical team primarily oversees clients who are undergoing detox with Suboxone, Methadone or other Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) methods.
Enrollment in the outpatient program is open both for clients undergoing detox as well as those who do not require detox and also serves as a step down from the inpatient program. Treatment is 12-step oriented and emphasizes the importance of working the steps with a sponsor for mental and spiritual wellness. Treatment is an individualized process developed by the client’s primary counselor. There is no standard length of treatment but clients typically participate for 30 days, attending treatment at the facility once to three times per week. Group therapy is the primary modality for treatment with counselors utilizing evidence-based therapy to foster growth.
All treatment is facilitated by Master’s-level clinicians. Staff credentials include LPCs, LCDCs and assistants working towards their licensure. While group therapy are the primary method of treatment, Recovery Coaching is also available to help clients with vocational guidance and more. All treatment modalities focus on building the client’s lives helping them to become contributing members of their communities and maintaining their new-found recovery with relapse prevention techniques.
Extras
First Step Recovery takes extra care to support physical as well as mental and spiritual recovery. Exercise classes are available as are yoga classes, breathing and spiritual techniques. Meditation and mindfulness classes are available as are massages to aid in the body’s detox process.
Life skills and healthy living classes are also a part of treatment to help clients learn about budgeting, nutrition, job search and exercise. All of these classes and groups are integrated into the aftercare program. Transportation services are available for individuals who qualify.
