Family Focus Counseling Review
Founded in the state of Virginia in 1989, Family Focus Counseling Services provides individualized outpatient programs for substance abuse from three locations in Gainesville, Culpepper and Warrenton. Treatment is available for both adults and adolescents using evidence-based practices in both group and individual therapy sessions.
Treatment and Staff
Potential clients begin at Family Focus Counseling with an hour-long, in-person assessment with a counselor to establish an appropriate treatment plan. Programs generally last between eight and 24 weeks and consist of weekly, hour-long group sessions. Different topics are covered every week including trigger recognition, coping and relaxation skills as well as relapse prevention. Though substance abuse programs usually consist of only once a week group therapy, individual sessions can also be scheduled as needed.
Group sessions at Family Focus Counseling are co-ed and generally host around 10 clients. Both day and evening groups are available to fit a variety of schedules, with treatment practices like CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) used frequently. Though treatment at Family Focus Counseling is not based on the 12-step philosophy, clients are still encouraged to attend off-site AA/NA meetings, with referrals available as necessary. The facility provides random urinalysis and breathalyzer tests at an additional cost. The support and therapeutic staff at Family Focus Counseling includes LCSWs, LPCs and CSACs.
Extras
Aside from its more structured outpatient programs, Family Focus Counseling also provides classes for clients referred by the court system as a result of DUI offenses. Family and couples counseling services are also available, as is a certified domestic violence treatment program.

In all, Family Focus Counseling is a good fit for those who are further along in recovery and perhaps not in need of an intensive program. Though treatment is not entirely comprehensive, evidence-based therapy and an experienced staff are available to help along the way.
