The Fairbanks Hospital Supportive Living (FHSL) program in Indianapolis, Indiana offers sober living for men and women ages 18 and over. Located a block away from the main Fairbanks Hospital campus, FHSL provides clients in recovery an opportunity to transition from residential to outpatient treatment while living in a structured sober environment. With access to an assortment of life skills and training programs, FHSL clients are given ample support to become functioning members of their community.

Accommodations and Amenities

FHSL is an apartment complex with eight units dedicated to 16 clients. Each gender-specific unit has two single-occupancy bedrooms with twin beds and dressers, a shared bathroom, a comfortable living room, stocked kitchen and separate dining area. The apartments are air-conditioned and the monthly rent covers the water and power only. The residents are responsible for food, personal items, cleaning supplies, linens and money for the coin-operated laundry facilities—located on the ground level of the building.

Rules and Regulations

In order to be eligible for residency at FHSL, clients must be enrolled in the nine-week outpatient program at the Fairbanks Hospital substance abuse center. There are two levels of evidence based treatment—day treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

While in the three week long day-treatment program, clients attend group therapy, educational sessions and individual therapy Mondays through Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm. Upon completion, individuals step down to the six-week IOP, where they attend three-hour group sessions three days a week.

The house manger conducts drug and alcohol testing daily. Curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays and 11:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Clients are required to attend four 12-step meetings per week and attendance slips must be signed. Residents are responsible for keeping their units clean and house checks are conducted by the facility manager.

Extras

FHSL offers several life-skills programs to assist newly sober clients adjust to the next phase in their lives. Programs include literacy, job readiness, financial guidance, access to healthcare, weekly trips to the Fairbanks food bank and meetings with a local employment agency all ensure readiness for productive lives. Transportation is provided for all off-site meetings and training sessions.
