Excel Treatment Center Review
Started in 2013, Excel Treatment Center aims to provide a comfortable, individualized approach to treatment for substance abuse. This privately owned facility with locations in Dover and Randolph, New Jersey, offers Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and outpatient treatment, with both day and evening sessions. Through individual, group family therapy and a relapse prevention group, clients are given the tools for long-term success. Both adults and adolescents can seek treatment here.
Treatment and Staff
Excel Treatment Center takes an evidence-based approach for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Upon entering the program, a treatment plan is mapped out for each individual. Depending on the needs of the client and the severity of the issues, clients are assigned to IOP or outpatient. Each group has between six and 12 people.
The IOP meets for a minimum of three hours per day, three times a week. Both a morning and evening session are available, with the first session running from 10 am to 1 pm and the second from 6 to 9 pm. IOP offers a very structured routine without interfering with clients’ normal lives. Clients participate in group therapy, with topics such as processing, trauma, grief, anger management and codependency. They also meet every week on Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm for a relapse prevention group.
Individual counseling with a therapist happens once a week. The primary therapist also acts as the case manager, overseeing the client’s progress throughout treatment. To ensure sobriety, drug urinalysis happens on a weekly basis.
The outpatient program is similar to IOP, although it provides a less structured curriculum. Typically, clients come in once a week for three hours of group and then once a week for an hour of individual therapy.
Both of Excel Treatment Center’s programs offer psychiatric consultations and medication management when needed, although additional costs are charged. The initial evaluation prior to admission costs $150, group sessions cost $75 while individual therapy costs $75.
The staff is comprised of therapists and counselors. Consulting psychiatrists are available on an as-needed basis.
Extras
Once a month, family members are invited in for a night of group therapy. During this time, topics such as codependency, processing, communication and boundaries are discussed.
In Summary
Excel Treatment Center follows the traditional model for outpatient treatment. Through group therapy and evidence-based techniques, clients are able to find new ways of coping. The relapse prevention group focuses on keeping clients sober as they learn to interact with real life in new, healthy ways. While the program does not incorporate 12-step meetings, clients are free to explore this kind of recovery on their own time.
