Chehalis WashingtonEugenia Center Review

Eugenia Center is a non-profit treatment facility in Chehalis, Washington, a small city 85 miles south of Seattle. Since 1991, Eugenia Center has offered an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for substance abuse. Priding itself on being the only private non-profit recovery facility in Lewis County, Eugenia strives to maintain a positive environment promoting the ideals of “optimism, enthusiasm, and shared spirituality” and a commitment to the overall wellness of individuals in recovery. Through evidence based practices, clients work a program that includes individual and group therapy and an introduction to the 12-steps.

Treatment and Staff

The IOP consists of seventy-two hours of treatment, which most clients complete in three phases over the course of one year. In the first phase, usually lasting two months, clients attend group therapy three times a week and individual therapy at least once a month. The second phase typically lasts six months and requires clients to attend group therapy once a week and individual therapy at least once a month. In the third and final phase, clients step-down to monthly group therapy. This phase usually lasts four months.

Groups have a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-12 and are led by licensed Chemical Dependency Professionals (CDPs). Clinicians follow the Matrix Model and use various modalities including CBT, MRT and Seeking Safety. They also use exercises from The Living in Balance curriculum. Clinicians help clients navigate co-occurring disorders, but clients with dual-diagnosis are referred to mental health clinics for more intensive therapy and medication for ongoing support.

Treatment at Eugenia incorporates 12-step principals of recovery and clients in the IOP are required to attend eight “sober support” meetings a month; one may be a service at a church of their choice, but the others must be AA/NA meetings.

Extras

Eugenia Center offers one-on-one counseling and less intensive group therapy options for clients needing more basic outpatient support than the IOP. Alcohol and Drug Information School (ADIS) for those court-appointed to seek addiction education are also available, as are a Trauma Recovery class and Family Program.

In Summary

Eugenia Center provides numerous therapeutic options to meet clients at each stage of recovery. Counselors work with clients to appropriately pace their progress through the IOP. With its three phases of recovery and outside sober support meeting requirement, Eugenia Center ensures that clients have a healthy sober support network once they complete treatment.
