Doolittle and Harrington Healthcare Review
Doolittle and Harrington Healthcare (DHH) was established in 2014 by two licensed addictions counselors who are also recovering addicts in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, Kansas. Founders Richard Doolittle and Jennifer Harrington offer outpatient substance abuse treatment services along with a staff of sober counselors. Treatment that uses a CBT approach is available to adults and adolescents on an individual basis, as well as to couples and even entire family units. It is not necessary to follow the 12 steps or attend AA/NA meetings to receive treatment at DHH. A commitment to sobriety is all that is expected. However, many of DHH’s clients are referred by the court system.
Treatment and Staff
DHH offers individual and group CBT sessions, Mondays through Fridays. DHH treatment is on an individualized basis, citing a “client-centered effort” to try to mold the program to each client’s needs, which the sober staff understand may shift from day to day. A client who’s taking part in basic outpatient treatment may attend any number of hour-and-a-half CBT sessions and pay for services on a by-session basis. The cost for the standard outpatient group is $30 per hour, $35 for adolescents. Individual sessions run $50 per hour, while the price of family therapy is $75.
Those taking part in the DHH Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) make a commitment to attending three three-hour groups per week and pay $60 per hour. Mondays and Wednesdays offer morning groups, while night groups run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Groups may consist of four to twelve people depending on the time of day. Individual sessions are based on availability and must be scheduled as needed. DHH employs three LCDCs, not including its founders.
Extras
DHH is different than some rehabs in that they will work with a client at any stage of change in recovery, rather than only those who are committed to total sobriety. They believe not everyone is always 100% ready to embrace recovery at the outset of treatment. Their mission is to work with clients wherever they are in the process and help them progress to a healthier, more satisfying way of living.
