Del Amo Behavioral Health Review
Del Amo Behavioral Health System of Torrance, California, facilitates inpatient detox and dual diagnosis outpatient treatment programs for adult men and women. The outpatient offerings include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) utilizing CBT methods (in both group and individual therapy), psychoeducation and medication management. Del Amo also offers trauma-based programs and treatment for those with eating disorders.
Treatment and Staff
This facility offers detox for chemical dependency and aftercare services for incoming clients to be connected to residential treatment if necessary. Otherwise, after the client has been stabilized and is able to participate in an outpatient program, typically they begin the PHP. The PHP is five days a week, for four hours each day. The IOP is designed as a step-down program and is three days a week, also four hours a day. Both of these programs are individualized, so the length of time in treatment varies from client to client. Breakfast and lunch are served during the treatment day in between group sessions.
Therapeutic approaches include DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Group therapy addresses several recovery topics, like self-esteem, anger management, communication, relapse prevention and coping skills, along with helping clients integrate back into their communities as smoothly as possible. Clients work together with their therapist to design an individualized aftercare plan, which can include weekly therapy and connection to a 12-step support community. The programs offered at Del Amo are not based on the 12-step philosophy, though if the client is interested in exploring AA or NA they are able to provide resources.
There is an extensive staff at Del Amo; it includes LCSWs, CADCs, psychiatrists, psychologists, LPNs, occupational therapists and physicians.
Extras
Holistic modalities such as art and music therapy, experiential therapy and exercise can also be incorporated into treatment. As a way to embrace the idea of fun in sobriety, clients also experience sober activities through the facility like BBQs, holiday get-togethers and ice cream socials.
Additionally, there are specialty treatment tracks for clients with a co-occurring disorder who have experienced trauma and for those in the military.
