Crossroads to RecoveryCrossroads to Recovery Review

Located in Marshfield, a quaint town in Wisconsin, Crossroads to Recovery is a Christian recovery support group and community outreach that was started in 2014 by Ben and Deanna Hardy, both recovering addicts involved with Christian recovery homes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With the backing of their church, Faith Fellowship, they set out to help individuals in their town suffering from addiction.

Treatment and Staff

Crossroads helps individuals free themselves from addiction by offering support meetings based on the 12 steps with Biblical principles using the Celebrate Recovery material, relational support and friendship. In addition, Crossroads helps individuals by offering community service; ministry connections; rehab and detox referrals; Bible studies; 12-step outreach calls and prayer. The support meetings are led by a team of addicts in recovery who have been in the same shoes as the individuals coming to the meetings.

While Crossroads does not offer traditional individual therapy, participants are able to meet with Ben and Deanna Hardy on a one-to-one basis for support or anything else they might need. Right now, Crossroads meets in a group setting every Monday at Lammars Smokehouse BBQ, also located in Marshfield. Around 30 to 40 participants attend the group meetings.

Dual diagnosis is still supported at the meetings and the Hardys also refer those struggling with co-occurring disorders to a therapist. The same goes if an individual needs a doctor, rehab or detox— he or she is referred to the closest facilities.

The staff are comprised of eight volunteers with two or three part-time people. While the volunteers are not credentialed, Deanna Hardy is in school studying to receive her credentials as an Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) counselor and social work. With these credentials she intends to become the director of their planned non-profit, addiction recovery home.

In Summary

Crossroads to Recovery is different from other recovery support groups and community outreach because it is Christian faith-based and founded by individuals who have been through the addiction struggle and come out the other side. Also, the Hardys are available 24/7 to participants if they need someone to talk to, need someone to take them to detox or rehab, or anything they need in getting through early sobriety. In addition, they don’t ask for anything in return because someone was there for them when they were going through their own battle with substance abuse—at Crossroads to Recovery, it all comes full circle.
