Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center, Inc.Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center, Inc. Review

Canton, Ohio’s Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center (CIRC) was created in 2006 with the merger of Nova Behavioral Health and The Crisis Center of Stark County. It occupies two buildings: the Crisis Center, which houses a short-term detox facility (average stay of six days) and a residential program for those suffering from mental health disorders, and the Recovery Center, which houses its outpatient program for substance abuse.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at CIRC is at the standard outpatient level, with clients committing to attending group therapy once or twice a week and individual therapy as-needed, usually once a week. Most clients stay in the program for nine to 12 months, and those who need a higher level of care are referred to nearby Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or inpatient programs.

Groups are relatively small, with an average of eight participants. Therapists use Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT and Seeking Safety. An all-female group is available, and CIRC is currently developing a gender-specific group for men.

The treatment team at CIRC believes in the effectiveness of the 12-step framework and requires some clients to attend AA/NA meetings as a component of their treatment plan.

The extensive treatment team at CIRC includes psychiatrists, LISWs and PCCs, all of whom are experienced treating co-occurring disorders. Some clinicians also have addiction counseling credentials, including CDCs.

Extras

Family members can attend a client’s individual therapy if the treatment team thinks it would be helpful. CIRC offers a Multisystemic Therapy program (MST) for youth in crisis and also has programs for women who’ve been charged with domestic violence and/or disorderly conduct.

In Summary

For over a decade, Crisis Intervention and Recovery Center has been providing residents of Canton, Ohio with a long-term outpatient substance abuse treatment program. With support for co-occurring disorders, trauma survival and gender-specific processing groups, it may be an especially effective program for those whose substance abuse is impacted by sexual assault and mental health challenges.
