Located about 45 miles north of El Paso in the city of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Counseling Las Cruces (CLC) is the private practice of licensed clinical counselor Douglas Layer. Situated on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, Counseling Las Cruces provides a confidential, supportive and comfortable atmosphere where clients can feel free to open up about anything bothering them. CLC offers comprehensive outpatient counseling services for clients ages 16 and older struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders and surface addictions, as well as co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety and trauma.
Treatment and Staff
CPC treats clients struggling with addictions, mental health disorders and an array of personal, marital and familial challenges. In addition, Layer specializes in the care of individuals with LGBT issues as well as those with a criminal background. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment that includes several components from mental health and substance use history to current circumstances. This extensive evaluation is used to customize the most effective treatment plan to meet the unique needs of the individual client.
Layer provides care to heal the “whole person” rather than just treating symptoms. To this end, the facility utilizes a holistic, well-rounded treatment approach that integrates several therapeutic methods including femistic therapy, person-centered therapy and the problem solving and goal-setting techniques of reality therapy. Layer also employs evidence-based therapies like CBT and EMDR to treat past trauma as a causal component of current conditions. In addition, Layer also offers educational seminars and on communication and relationship workshops as well as LGBT issues.
As previously mentioned, Counseling Las Cruces is the private practice of Douglas Layer. Layer is a Master’s-level clinical counselor and certified clinical trauma professional. He is not a physician and cannot offer medication management for clients with co-occurring disorders.
In addition to one-on-one therapy, Douglas Layer provides comprehensive, effective couples counseling for an array of issues including infidelity, communication and divorce. CLC also offers therapy for families.
Counseling Las Cruces offers outpatient counseling for adults with a wide range of substance use disorders, mental illnesses and personal issues. While CLC does not offer medication management, Layer does utilize a client-centered model centered around practical methods, evidence-based therapies and workshops. Layer is a good option for anyone in the area looking for a good therapist.
