Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana Health Review
Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana Health provides health and wellness services to the federally recognized Chitimacha tribe of Louisiana. Located on the Chitimacha Reservation near Charenton, Louisiana, Chitimacha is surrounded by traditional culture while still providing access to community resources as they recover. The substance abuse treatment program is offered under the tribe’s health services and is exclusively outpatient.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at CTLH begins with an initial evaluation and assessment to determine the unique needs of the client and to develop an individualized treatment plan. Clients are required to meet with their counselor at least once a week for individual CBT. The frequency and type of group therapy is dependent on the client’s treatment plan, although involvement in a 12-step program and group session attendance is required at least twice a week.
Addiction education seminars and groups are also offered to clients and their families to better understand the nature of chemical dependency and how to navigate through addiction and recovery. Random drug tests and breathalyzers are also administered throughout treatment to help clients meet their goals of being substance free. Prevention and intervention programs and seminars are also offered to clients and the broader tribal community.
The staff at CTLH consists of LPCs and CADCs.
