Center for Discovery Bellevue Review
Based out of the affluent Seattle suburb Bellevue, Washington, Center for Discovery Bellevue is one of many subsidiary locations owned and operated by nationwide behavioral health organization Center for Discovery. The latter is a Joint Commission-accredited company with many facilities throughout the United States offering treatment to men, women and adolescents struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring disorders. The Bellevue facility in particular offers both outpatient and residential treatment to adolescent and adult women.
Accommodations and Food
The Bellevue location is a secluded suburban home surrounded by pines. Offering a accommodations for up to eight women, bedrooms are shared between two clients each and come with full beds, comforters, end tables, dressers and closet space. The house has wood floors throughout, well-appointed living areas with cable TV, on-site laundry, therapy rooms, a dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen.
All clients are served three healthy meals a day with individualized meal plans created by on-staff chefs and dietitians. Because developing healthy eating habits is a cornerstone of the program, residents also take more responsibility for their own meals as they progress through the program.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the clinical team develop their individualized treatment plans. Because the program focuses primarily on treating eating disorders, on-site detox for substance abuse issues are not provided. Though each plan may differ somewhat, each features individual, group and family therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). To get to the bottom of clients’ disordered relationship with eating, groups also feature trauma-informed care covering topics like shame resilience and body positivity. EMDR is available as well. Clients also participate in regular nutritional counseling and cooking classes to help them repair their relationships with food and eating.
Although 12-step participation is not required, those who finish primary care can also get referrals to nearby peer support groups as necessary. Dual diagnosis support and medication management services are also available.
The staff at Center for Discovery Bellevue consists of Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS), a physician, a psychiatrist, LMFTs, LMHCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Plenty of holistic therapy is also included in treatment including art therapy, Somatic Experiencing, yoga, gym time, Zumba classes, nature hikes and mindfulness training. Equine therapy is also available.
As mentioned, the Bellevue location also offers outpatient programs, and Center for Discovery at large has facilities throughout California, Connecticut, Virginia, New Jersey, Florida, Texas and Oregon.
Clients can also work with staff members to step down the intensity of their programs to serve as aftercare plans. Center for Discovery also has a mobile app that alumni can use to track their meals, learn nutritional information and record their feelings.
