Carneiro’s Sober Living Review
With discreet homes located in El Sobrante and Concord, California, Carneiro’s Sober Living is a small sober living organization offering safe and stable homes for men and women in early recovery. The company has three homes throughout the area, namely the Co-Ed House, the Huron House for Men and the Rockne House for Men.
Accommodations and Amenities
Though each of the homes layouts may differ somewhat, all of the houses have three to four bedrooms, each of which are generally shared between two residents. Still, the occasional single room may be available depending on how many people are in the program at a given time. Rooms include basic decor, carpeted floors, twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. Though the homes themselves also differ somewhat, each has a comfortable living room area with cable TV, Internet access, a shared kitchen and dining area, outdoor yard space and a shared bathroom. As an added bonus, those staying at the Rockne House can also take advantage of an outdoor pool when the weather permits it. All clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals
Rules and Regulations
Like most sober living homes, all clients are Carneiro’s Sober Living must sign and follow a standard house behavioral contract forbidding substance abuse, weapons and fighting at the facilities. All residents are expected to remain sober and submit to regular and random drug testing. Clients are expected to keep their rooms as well as the common areas clean and tidy and to keep their days busy—this means attending outpatient treatment, volunteering, going to school or getting a job. Participants are also expected to work a 12-step program and to participate in all required house meetings as well. Though these homes are not considered a permanent housing solution, all offer flexible lengths of stay.
Extras
All the homes are conveniently located nearby public transit, shopping, restaurants and potential job opportunities. Though residents are mostly left to their own devices, the organization does keep house managers on-site to provide support to the residents and to oversee general day-to-day operations. Those seeking help with case management related issues like getting food stamps or dealing with local courts can also work with the staff members as necessary.
In Summary
Overall, Carneiro’s Sober Living provides flexible and safe sober environments for both men and women. As with many sober homes, all residents are expected to obey a set of basic rules, remain sober and stay busy throughout their stay. Each of the houses provides a comfortable and unfussy approach to sobriety while encouraging peer support within each home. For those in the area looking for a discreet and simple sober living option, Carneiro’s Sober Living homes may be worth considering.
