Located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Community Adolescent Rehabilitation Effort For Change, Inc (CARE for Change) offers outpatient services to adolescents and adults in need of substance abuse and mental health support. The facility has been serving the local community for over 15 years through individualized treatment plans catered to suit each client’s needs. Treatment consists of group, individual and family therapy sessions that use evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT.
Treatment and Staff
Upon beginning treatment at CARE For Change, clients undergo an assessment with a clinician. Through this process, each individual is matched with a counselor who they meet with for individual therapy. These sessions are usually held once or twice a week for at least an hour each session. Adolescents in treatment are required to have their family members participate in therapy sessions at least once a month. These are scheduled as needed. Adult clients have the option to attend group therapy as a supplement to individual sessions, though as of this publishing there are no group sessions offered to adolescents. Those in need of support for co-occurring disorders are offered referrals to a psychiatrist in the community who can provide medication management.
For adults 18 and up there are various groups offered on a weekly basis. These take place Monday through Thursday in both morning and evening. Monday groups are from 10 am to noon and 6 to 8 pm. Wednesday groups are from 10 am to noon and 6 to 7 pm. On Thursday a two hour group is available from 3 to 5 pm. These cover topics such as relapse prevention, substance abuse education, stress management, anger management, parenting skills and co-occurring disorders. Groups are co-ed and use a discussion and lecture-based approach. There’s also a women’s only group held on Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 pm with a focus on trauma led by a female counselor. Typically those attending substance abuse groups also engage in individual sessions on a weekly basis, though these are not mandatory.
Participation in a 12-step program is not mandatory, though AA and NA meetings are still encouraged. There are no on-site meetings available though staff members can refer clients to local meetings in the community upon request.
Staff members at CARE For Change include counselors with degrees in psychology, substance abuse case managers and CADCs. The main techniques used in treatment are evidence-based modalities including CBT and traditional talk therapy.
