Borinquen Behavioral Health Resource Center Review
The Borinquen Behavioral Health Resource Center is a branch of Borinquen Medical Centers, a network of health care facilities founded in 1972 to serve the Miami-Dade communities. Located in Miami, Borinquen has easy-access to a network of local medical centers across the city. Borinquen offers an outpatient program that uses a multi-faceted evidence based approach to treatment using traditional therapeutic methods.
Treatment and Staff
Borinquen offers a basic outpatient program that caters to the belief that mental disorders and substance abuse disorders are linked. With that frame of mind, BHRC integrates various methodologies into treatment that aim to treat co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues.
After an initial evaluation counselors and their clients develop an individualized plan with recovery goals that become the focus of therapy for the duration of treatment. The program consists of two three-hour group therapy sessions per week and one one-hour individual therapy session per week. Groups cover topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, independent living skills, addiction education, self-esteem building, co-occurring disorders and anger management. Family therapy sessions can also be scheduled separately for those who wish to involve their family in their treatment.
All sessions implement CBT methodology. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program, but clients are encouraged to attend meetings. The length of the program is dependent upon the client’s progress towards their recovery goals.
The staff at BBHRC consists of consists of LPCs, MFTs and LADCs.

The Behavioral Health Center is just one of the medical centers associated with Borinquen, with a broad network of facilities offering general health care and medical services typically available at any hospital. There is also a wellness and specialty care center, a case management center and a drop-in education and access center.
