Located 40 miles west of Los Angeles, California in the suburban city of Agoura Hills, BNI Treatment Centers is a residential treatment facility that specializes in the care of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17. These young men and women are usually struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, as well as co-occurring disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and surface addictions like video games, internet and sex. Two physicians started and operate the facility in order to provide long-term medical and psychological support. Residents can stay in either private or shared bedrooms equipped with upscale full-sized beds, nice linens, plenty of storage space and ensuite bathrooms. There is only a total six beds so the clients get plenty of personal attention, and also experience the benefits of a close-knit atmosphere.
They enjoy a healthy and delicious menu that an on-site culinary team prepares. There are plenty of options for individuals dietary preferences and restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
During intake, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment that includes a thorough physical and psychological evaluations as well as a complete account of substance use. Based off the results, the treatment team designs an individualized treatment strategy customized to address the unique needs and goals of the client. Many clients transition into the detox, which includes around-the-clock supervision and medications that curb painful withdrawal symptoms. While the length of detox varies, clients typically stay around two weeks. When necessary, the facility utilizes naloxone to block the effects of opioids such as heroin and fentanyl. Upon completion, residents generally transition into the residential phase.
Participants can expect evidence-based therapies, relapse prevention, psychoeducation and holistic practices. Clients engage in individual and group therapy rooted in CBT, DBT, psychodynamic and interpersonal therapy. Psychoeducation courses focus on relevant topics like addiction as a disease and coping strategies. Twelve-step recovery is not an aspect of the curriculum.
The treatment team is comprised of physicians, adult and child psychiatrists, therapists and nurses. Dual diagnosis support is available in the form of medication management.
