Belmont Behavioral Hospital Outpatient Review

Belmont Behavioral Hospital has been serving the residents of greater Philadelphia for over 75 years. Its main campus on Monument Road provides outpatient treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. Outpatient treatment is offered at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care. Its outpatient programs have dedicated tracks for older adults and those who are treatment-resistant.

Belmont also has a short-term sub-acute inpatient program for the treatment of co-occurring disorders. Clients must have a primary mental health diagnosis and can be treated for substance abuse as a secondary diagnosis. Belmont is equipped to treat severe mental health disorders such as bipolar and schizo-affective disorder, as well as mood and eating disorders.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are placed in an appropriate treatment track according to their age and clinical history. IOP clients attend group therapy three times each week and standard outpatient clients attend group therapy once or twice each week. Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed.

The clinical team is led by a veteran CADC with 25 years’ experience. The treatment team also includes psychologists, social workers, peer support specialists and psychiatrists for dual diagnosis support.

Therapy uses CBT, DBT and mindfulness techniques. The treatment team also highly encourages participation in 12-step meetings. The facility hosts a number of 12-step meetings and support groups on-site each week, including AA, NA, Naranon, Gamblers Anonymous and groups for those suffering from borderline personality disorder and eating disorders.

Extras

Belmont hosts a monthly Staying Connected meeting for alumni to re-engage in their treatment community and learn self-care. It also hosts a monthly family education group with topics such as setting boundaries and facilitating recovery. Family members are also encouraged to attend family therapy sessions. Belmont has dedicated treatment groups for eating disorder treatment, as well.

In Summary

Belmont Behavioral Hospital has been serving the residents of Philadelphia for several decades, and its multi-disciplinary treatment team is equipped to treat treatment-resistant clients and those with significant co-occurring disorders. By offering a variety of support groups and an alumni association, Belmont ensures that clients have an effective bridge between clinical support and living in recovery in the real world.
