Balance Eating Disorder Center Review
Located in the heart of New York City, Balance Eating Disorder Center is a small behavioral health clinic that offers flexible outpatient treatment plans for clients struggling with eating disorders and related co-occurring disorders. Therapy is available in several different levels including standard outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and day treatment, which is akin to a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Treatment plans are open to men and women, adults and adolescents alike.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, all clients go through an initial assessment process to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. While on-site detox services are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities as necessary. The most intensive option is the day treatment track, a four-week plan which runs full-time from 8 am to 2:15 pm, Monday through Friday. IOP is more flexible, meeting three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 pm for six weeks. Finally, outpatient group plans can be modified to fit any number of schedules.
Treatment includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Groups are kept unusually small, with a maximum of eight clients, to ensure that all participants get an intimate treatment experience. As mentioned, dual diagnosis support is also available including medication management and psychiatric oversight. Group sessions cover a number of different topics including nutritional counseling, healthy eating, body image, self-esteem, relapse prevention, exposure therapy (which includes grocery shopping, food prep and meals at local restaurants) and family systems therapy. While 12-step groups are not explicitly required, those seeking referrals to nearby peer support groups can get them as necessary.
The staff at Balance Eating Disorder Center consists of RDNs, LPCs, LCSWs, LMHCs, MDs, nutritionists, psychiatrists and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
In addition to the clinical practices above, other services include experiential groups which may include art therapy, movement therapy and psychodrama.
A number of specialized treatment plans are also available including men’s-only groups, standalone nutritional counseling, adolescent-specific programs, weekend therapy sessions and other flexible care options. Those who complete a primary care plan can also work with clinicians to step down their treatment as a form of aftercare.
In Summary
Overall, Balance Eating Disorder Center provides a full continuum of treatment services for any and all clients struggling with eating disorders. Treatment plans are designed to heal clients in mind, body and spirit with a curriculum that incorporates evidence-based care, holistic therapy and nutritional counseling. Though the cost of these programs is liable to vary depending on the strength of each participant’s insurance, Balance Eating Disorder Center is a comprehensive outpatient resource for those in the area.
