ANA Treatment Centres Outpatient Review
Located in Portsmouth, England, ANA Treatment Centre has been providing comprehensive addiction treatment since 1998. In addition to the primary services that include a medical detox and inpatient care, ANA also offers second and third phase outpatient treatment along with sober housing. Treatment is based on the 12-steps and utilizes evidence based approaches within group and individual therapy, and other therapeutic activities at the secondary treatment facility located in Southsea.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient treatment program entails that clients practice their independent living skills they learned in the primary stages of treatment while still attending regular therapy and at least four AA, NA or CA meetings per week. It is not required that clients live in the facility’s sober housing units, however it is encouraged. This stage has clients building a sober network of friends while learning how to have fun in recovery and supporting each other.
There are ongoing workshops that clients attend every week. These workshops help with communication, family relationships, anger management, relapse prevention, resolving conflict, identifying triggers and setting personal goals. This phase of treatment usually lasts about three months, however clients have the option to remain for up to one year.
There is a large staff at ANA from the therapists to the support staff. On the clinical side there are medical doctors and nurses, LCSW and addiction counselors. Additionally a big portion of the staff are former clients of ANA who have decided to give back to the community by dedicating their lives helping others free themselves from drugs and alcohol.
Extras
There is a year long aftercare program that clients are invited to join after graduating from any stage of their programs. The aftercare consists of weekly groups that meet Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. These sessions serve as a place for former clients to receive extra weekly support from ANA staff and peers. They also help with housing placement, education and workplace issues.
For those who opt to stay in the sober living facilities, clients live in private homes with two or three other people.

The outpatient program at ANA is a great next step for those who have learned how to get sober but need to know how to stay that way. There are several therapeutic options presented for clients, all of which emphasizes their strengths. Additionally, the year long aftercare program really adds a level of support and faith that most treatment facilities don’t.
