Affinity Recovery Review
Affinity Recovery is a luxury detox and residential treatment facility offering evidence-based, gender-specific treatment programs with three locations in Southern California. Treatment is individualized and implements the 12-step philosophy, dual diagnosis support, group and individual therapy, psychoeducation and holistic approaches.
Accommodations and Food
The three residential facilities, located in San Juan Capistrano, Newport Beach and Ladera Ranch, are all spacious and beautiful homes that offer luxurious amenities and comfort. Each home is gender-specific with a maximum of six beds. Some bedrooms are private, while some semi-private but all have fully furnished with queen beds. Linens are all provided and there is laundry on site. There are state of the art kitchens with new appliances, large living rooms with plush couches and mounted big screen televisions, cable and Internet throughout the home. Each home also has a pool and ample outdoor seating in the backyard areas.
All meals are provided and prepared on site by staff. Each meal is designed by a nutritionist and is prepared with local and fresh ingredients.
Treatment and Staff
The first step at Affinity is the detox process, which is medically monitored 24 hours a day by a nursing staff. This usually takes between five and seven days, then clients are placed into the residential program, which is 28 days. The staff provides personalized treatment plans for each client that is comprised of therapy, education and holistic modalities. Even during the detox phase clients participate in individual and group therapy and daily AA meetings.
There are several group sessions daily, and because the program is so small, no more than six at a time, the staff-to-client ratio is about one-to-one, allowing for individual attention to each client. Groups often focus on relapse prevention, anger management, managing cravings, identifying triggers and coping skills. Evidence-based therapeutic methods include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR.
The staff of Affinity include both medical and clinical professionals. There are LCDCs, LPCs and substance abuse counselors in addition to physicians and nurses on the detox side.
Extras
Holistic options offered can be art and music therapy, meditation, experiential and expressive therapies and mindfulness approaches. Clients exercise regularly, whether in the provided pool or instructor lead yoga classes. There are also group outings to one of the surrounding beaches, bowling and movie nights.
