Affiliated Clinical Services Review
Affiliated Clinical Services has been offering mental health evaluation and adult outpatient substance abuse treatment since 1984. ACS’s main facility is located in West Bend, Wisconsin, about 45 minutes north of Milwaukee, with a secondary office in nearby Hartford. Within its intensive outpatient program (IOP), ACS offers a variety of therapies including individual, couples, family and group, as well as Christian counseling—what adherents know as “soul care” based on Biblical teachings.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to beginning the four-to-eight-week IOP program, clients undergo a comprehensive evaluation. Psychiatric evaluation is completed by an MD, psychosocial assessment is provided by a LCSW, alcohol and drug abuse evaluation is performed by a CADC and psychological testing is provided by a psychologist. If it is determined that clients need detox or inpatient care, referrals will be provided.
The abstinence-based program emphasizes CBT in conjunction with the 12-step recovery method. Attending off-site AA and NA meetings is encouraged. ACS offers two-hour day and evening group meetings four times weekly and individual counseling is scheduled around the client’s specific needs. The program also includes weekly aftercare and relapse prevention groups.
The ACS staff is comprised of medical doctors, psychiatrists and a variety of credentialed specialists including licensed clinical social workers and certified clinical substance abuse counselors. The facility does not offer detox or dual diagnosis support.
Extras
ACS’s aftercare consists of primary outpatient process groups that meet two to three times per week for 90 minutes each, stressing education on long-term sobriety in a supportive, therapeutic environment. The clinic also provides DUI education from its Hartford location.
A relapse prevention program is provided for adults with at least three months of sobriety, with meetings every Tuesday. ACS also offers a twice-weekly support group for teens struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, as well as for teens simply seeking substance education.
Family participation in clients’ recovery is emphasized at ACS, and the family program is offered the last Saturday of each month.
