Des Plaines IllinoisAdvocate Addiction Treatment Program Review

Falling under the banner of Advocate Health Care, a faith-based, non-profit health system, Advocate Addiction Treatment Program offers two outpatient programs in Des Plaines, Illinois: a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Advocate Health Care is the largest health network in Illinois with 250 sites of care and 12 acute-care hospitals.

Treatment and Staff

The AATP is housed in a small facility one mile from one of the Advocate hospitals in downtown Des Plaines, a bustling community just east of Chicago. PHP and IOP typically last between five and eight weeks. PHP meets from  9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday, while IOP is more scaled down with three-hour morning or evening sessions five days a week. Clients also have the chance to schedule individual sessions with a CADC. Group sessions use CBT, peer support and 12-step principles. Family counseling is available as well.

Given AATP’s alliance the Advocate Health Care system, it is unsurprising that clients have access to a full medical staff, including a medical doctor, registered nurse, certified medical assistant, addiction counselors and licensed therapists. There is a psychiatrist on staff who can offer medication management. There’s also a medical detox offered at the nearby Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, a partnering facility.

Extras

Advocate Addiction Treatment also offers a multitude of other programs such as a smoking cessation program—comprised of seven sessions to develop individualized strategies for clients to quit cigarettes. There is also a stress management group, which spends four separate sessions analyzing the root causes and coping strategies for chronic stress. Finally, a youth-oriented option called the Emerging Adult Program is a series of sessions for young people struggling with addiction.

In Summary

The Advocate Addiction Treatment Program offers standard PHP and IOP tracks, backed by the resources of the vast Advocate Health Care network—the largest in the state. As a result, clients have access not only to CBT and 12-step care, but also a medically assisted detox, dual diagnosis support as well as a host of other programs. In all, AATP is worth considering for individuals seeking support for establishing and maintaining long-term sobriety.
