Addiction Recovery Technologies Review
Addiction Recovery Technologies (ART) of Minnesota has offered individualized, 12-step based outpatient treatment programs since 1991, serving adolescents and adults with substance abuse as well as those with co-occurring conditions.
With two locations in Mankato and St. Peter, ART provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), relapse prevention, addiction education and a family program.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient programs at ART begin with an assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. All programs are individualized and structured around each client’s schedule with treatment programs available during the day as well as evenings. The programs are designed to allow clients to step down—starting with IOP then moving to a basic outpatient track and finally to aftercare.
All programs incorporate a combination of individual and group therapy, and include psycho-education, relapse prevention, anger management, coping skills and parenting. There is no fixed duration for treatment, though typically clients participate for between 12 and 18 weeks (both adults and adolescents).
New clients attend three group therapy sessions a week for four to six weeks. After that, sessions reduce to twice a week for another four to six weeks before tapering down to one session a week for a final four to six weeks. Regardless of their unique program, clients meet weekly for one-on-one sessions with an assigned counselor. In addition to following the 12-step philosophy, therapy methods include DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, EMDR and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).
Medication management services are available for those with a dual-diagnosis. Clients are encouraged but not required to attend AA/NA or Celebrate Recovery meetings while in treatment. The staff are all Master’s-level counselors and LADCs.
The adolescent track is tailored for clients between the ages of 12 and 19. Though similar in structure to the adult programs with individualized plans designed to fit the needs of each client, there is more of a focus on early intervention.
Extras
ART has an adult continuing care program that meets once a week in groups as well as family and couples therapy programs. The facility also offers assistance with job-skill training to help clients become contributing members of their communities.
A track known as the Relapse Response and Prevention Program (RRAP) is designed for clients who have already gone though a residential or outpatient program and need further treatment. This program focuses on relaxation techniques including meditation, regular exercise and diet changes in addition to group and individual therapy.
