Vancouver WashingtonAcadia: Vancouver Comprehensive Treatment Center Review

Since 2006, Vancouver Comprehensive Treatment Center has offered outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. It currently offers treatment plans using methadone, Subutex and Suboxone and requires clients to also participate in group and individual therapy while receiving their medication doses.

Vancouver CTC is located in Vancouver, Washington, a large city directly across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. The clinic is located near Pacific Community Park and the Harmony Sports Complex. Vancouver CTC is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international group of mental and behavioral health facilities which operates a number of outpatient and residential programs throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Treatment and Staff

After they’re assessed, clients and the treatment team decide which course of MAT they’re best suited for: methadone, Suboxone or Subutex. After attending orientation sessions to learn about the program, clients then must attend group therapy at least once a month and individual therapy weekly.

The treatment team at Vancouver CTC includes physicians, nurses and Chemical Dependency Professionals (CDPs). Therapy uses CBT and groups explore handling triggers, relapse prevention and the disease model of addiction. Clients with co-occurring disorders are referred to a nearby mental health clinic for dual diagnosis support. Clients are also encouraged to seek out peer support meetings such as Methadone Anonymous or NA if they think it would be beneficial, and Vancouver CTC can help them locate meetings in the area.

After 90 days of successful treatment—including clean drug screens—methadone clients can begin applying for take-home doses of their medication. Suboxone and Subutex clients may become eligible for take homes in less time. As clients progress through treatment, they can apply for additional take-homes and attend therapy less frequently. Vancouver CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.

In Summary

Vancouver Comprehensive Treatment Center offers opioid addicts three options for MAT alongside numerous processing and psychoeducation groups each week. Clients can rely not only on their treatment team, but also on the each other as they achieve recovery goals and learn how to create a healthy support system.
